A Teaching & Studio Space

After working with clay for more than 10 years, I finally started a teaching space for the first time in downtown Yangon.

This is the neighborhood I spent most of my life while growing up and going to school in Myanmar. So it's a nice coincidence that my first public studio ends up being there.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of downtown city life, my studio space is now on the ground floor of a heritage building on 47th street. The apartment has been renovated and restored to preserve most of its historic architectural elements along with its charmingly old wall and high ceiling arches.

If you are interested in visiting or taking a workshop with me, feel free to reach out to me to set up a time at studionwe@gmail.com

ABOUT ME

My name is Soe Yu Nwe. I am a ceramic artist from Myanmar. I began my art education in the United States in 2009 and eventually earned my Master of Fine Art (MFA) in Ceramics in 2015 from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), one of the oldest art schools in the US. While developing my body of work, the concept of "spirit" and "houses" are central to my exploration.

I am excited to inhabit this new studio teaching space to see how it could inspire new ideas in my work.
