Shangyu Celadon Modern International Ceramic Center, China

Recently I have completed a one-month residency at Shangyu Celadon Modern International Ceramic Art Center with the help of Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) travel grant.

The residency is located in Shangyu, Zhejiang, China and it’s the birthplace of Chinese Celadon. The facility there was amazing. I had the chance to visit a local ancient kiln site, tried Shangyu Celadon glaze and bonded with other resident artists- Aor Sutthiprapha from Thailand (aorsutthiprapha.com), Simcha Even-chen from Israel (simcha-evenchen.com), Taxoo Lee from Korea, and Korean graduate student, Go Hyerim (高惠林) from Tsinghua University. Mr. Wong (王军), a staff from the center, documented wonderfully our trip, my studio life and the finished work. Most photos from this blog post is supplied by Mr. Wong. I am grateful for the invitation from Mr. Bai Ming, the founder of the Center, and accommodation I have received. I am especially thankful for the help and kindness I have received from translator, Sydney and technical assistant, Martin. It was wonderful to have made such good friends and I have to thank Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) for supporting this trip!
